On June 5, 2025, Chinese President Xi Jinping urged U.S. President
Donald Trump during a telephone conversation to 'correct the course' of bilateral relations, according to reports from state media.
Xi stated that 'correcting the course of the great ship of U.S.-China relations requires us to govern it well and establish its direction, especially to eliminate all kinds of interference and even destruction.'
In response, Trump described his call with Xi as 'very good' and emphasized a positive outcome regarding trade discussions.
He noted that both leaders had extended invitations to each other to visit their respective countries.
'The call lasted about an hour and a half and resulted in a very positive conclusion for both countries,' Trump posted on his platform, Truth Social.
He also mentioned that the trade teams from the U.S. and China would meet soon for further discussions.
'President Xi kindly invited me and the First Lady to visit China, and I reciprocated that invitation.
As presidents of two great nations, this is something we are both looking forward to,' he added.
This interaction comes amid ongoing tensions between the two nations, which have been marked by economic, political, and military rivalries.
