Costa Rica’s Constitutional Chamber has requested that President Rodrigo Chaves be stripped of his legal immunity, opening the door for criminal prosecution in an ongoing corruption investigation.

The court alleges that the president may have interfered in a procurement process linked to public contracts.

If approved by lawmakers, the move would mark an unprecedented legal challenge to the country's highest office.
