Eighteen-Year-Old Fatality in Alajuela Shooting Identified as Jeyron Parra Araya
Victim reportedly not the intended target in a shooting incident in Desamparados.
An 18-year-old identified as Jeyron Parra Araya was fatally shot late on the night of February 5, 2025, in Desamparados, Alajuela.
The incident occurred around 9:30 PM as the victim was on the street with another individual.
Preliminary reports indicate that a lone assailant approached and opened fire, hitting Parra once in the chest.
Following the shooting, Parra was transported via private vehicle to San Rafael Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
He was a graduate of the Colegio Redentorista San Alfonso in Alajuela.
Initial investigations conducted by the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) suggest that Parra was not the intended target of the shooting.
A suspect, identified only by the last name Gutiérrez and reported to be 30 years old, was apprehended by law enforcement approximately 200 meters from the crime scene later that evening.
According to police statistics, of the 89 homicides recorded in 2025, seven cases have been classified as collateral victims.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Parra's death is ongoing.
