The former director of the National Roadway Council (CONAVI), Cristhian Arroyo Gamboa, was arrested on Tuesday outside his residence in connection with corruption allegations related to his prior role at the Municipality of Mora.

The Office of the Attorney General for Probity, Transparency, and Anti-Corruption confirmed the arrest, citing investigations into Arroyo Gamboa's involvement in the alleged irregular payment of contracts, embezzlement, and failure to fulfill duties while serving as the director of the Technical Unit of Road Management before his tenure at CONAVI.

Alongside Arroyo Gamboa, the municipal authorities are also under investigation.

The mayor of Mora, Alfonso Jiménez Cascante, the deputy mayor, Ariuna Cabal Lombodorzh, and a supplier identified as Chaves Marín have been temporarily detained for allegedly favoring certain companies in public bidding processes.

Reports suggest that they may have authorized payments for projects that were not completed.

As part of the ongoing inquiry, the Attorney General's office had previously seized a mobile phone from Cristhian Arroyo Gamboa on February 11, which is believed to be connected to the broader investigation involving the mayor of Mora.

Subsequently, on February 14, Efraím Zeledón, the Minister of Public Works and Transport, requested Arroyo Gamboa's resignation from his position at CONAVI, stating it was to appoint someone more aligned with the ministry's objectives.

The former CONAVI director is currently in the custody of the Public Ministry, where he is facing inquiries.

Authorities are evaluating the need for precautionary measures following his arrest.
