Jefry Valverde's Ambitions: Returning to Prominence in Saprissa

The midfielder aims to secure a vital role and regain his place in the starting lineup as the new season approaches.
The Costa Rican footballer Jefry Valverde, a central midfielder for Deportivo Saprissa, has expressed a strong belief that 2025 will mark a turning point in his sporting career.

Amidst speculation surrounding potential moves to San Carlos or Liberia following the conclusion of the Apertura 2024 tournament, Valverde has confirmed his intention to remain with Saprissa for the upcoming season.

In recent discussions, Sergio Gila, the club's sporting manager, assured Valverde of continued faith in his abilities.

Head coach José Giacone also reiterated his desire to integrate Valverde into the team’s strategic plans for the coming campaign.

"The last thing I talked about with Sergio before departing was that I would stay here, that the coach was willing to give me the chance to fight for a position.

I'm very happy here, and I know I need to work just as hard to regain regular playtime," Valverde stated.

Staying competitive in a highly demanding squad has proven challenging for Valverde, particularly with the influx of new players.

"It's difficult due to the high demands within a squad like ours, and even more so now with new teammates.

One must work hard, put in effort, and remember that we are part of a team that always demands excellence.

Working day by day and proving oneself is crucial," Valverde emphasized.

Coach José Giacone appears committed to providing another opportunity for the 29-year-old to prove his worth on the pitch.

Valverde shares this sentiment, recognizing the perpetual need for readiness among professional athletes.

"You always want to play and be there to support the team, but there have been times when I haven't been included or considered, and I’ve never lost focus on my goals.

It’s important to stay responsible with the institution," he reflected.

As Saprissa prepares for their Clausura 2025 opener against San Carlos, Valverde understands the importance of starting the new season on a positive note.

"It's vital to play an intelligent game and avoid the mistakes of last year that prevented us from finishing first in the regular phase.

Last season, we were on the verge of making history with a fifth championship.

Things didn't go as we hoped, and this should motivate us to show a different face in this tournament," he remarked.

Jefry Valverde's dedication and ambition to reclaim a significant role within Deportivo Saprissa showcase both his resilience and commitment to achieving success with one of Costa Rica's most distinguished football clubs.
