Keylor Navas Joins Newell's Old Boys: Costa Rican Goalkeeper Signs for Argentine Club

Keylor Navas begins his tenure with Newell's Old Boys following a two-year contract signing.
On January 24, 2025, Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas was officially presented as a new player for Newell's Old Boys, a prominent football club based in Rosario, Argentina.

Navas, who is 38 years old, has signed a two-year contract with the club, marking his return to professional football after an eight-month hiatus.

His last competitive match took place in May 2024 for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), where he subsequently became a free agent.

Navas's arrival in Rosario was punctuated by a busy schedule, beginning with his first training session with his new teammates and continuing with a presentation event to fans and the media.

Accompanied by his family, the former Real Madrid goalkeeper expressed his readiness to contribute to the team.

He has mentioned that, during his time away from the pitch, he focused on recharging mentally and physically, which has equipped him for his new opportunity.

In preparation for Newell's upcoming fixtures, Navas has been actively participating in training sessions.

Discussions with his new coach, Mariano Soso, focused on the leadership role envisioned for him within the squad.

Navas has emphasized his commitment to being a part of the team, stating that he is eager to earn his place and help the club achieve its goals.

The goalkeeper also disclosed that he had spoken with his former PSG teammate, Lionel Messi, about joining Newell's Old Boys—a club where Messi began his youth career.

Although details of their conversation remain private, Navas acknowledged the supportive relationship between them.

Navas attended Newell's Old Boys' opening match of the Apertura Tournament, where the team experienced a 1-0 loss to Independiente de Rivadavia.

Moving forward, the club is slated to play against Banfield on Monday, for which Navas is expected to be ready, pending further integration into the first team.

His potential involvement in this upcoming match is yet to be confirmed.
