Contender, a great white shark measuring 4.3 meters in length and weighing 725 kilograms, is currently moving towards a renowned beach area on the East Coast of the United States.

This shark is notable for being the largest of its species recorded in the Atlantic Ocean, according to data from a marine research organization.

Contender was tagged in January off the coast near Jacksonville, situated approximately 72 kilometers from the border between Florida and Georgia.

Following a period of inactivity in its tracking signals, it reappeared on researchers' radars last week, north of North Carolina, close to Pamlico Sound.

Scientists estimate that Contender is around 30 years old.

Its presence in this region corresponds with a critical feeding period, which allows the shark to accumulate the energy necessary for a potential migration exceeding 1,600 kilometers.

The movements of great white sharks typically align with their seasonal migration patterns, as they migrate from warmer wintering grounds in the south to feeding areas in the northeastern United States and the Canadian Atlantic between mid-May and late June.
