Minnesota Police Identify Suspect in Fatal Attack on Democratic Congress Members

Law enforcement officials find manifesto and list of potential targets linked to the attack labeled as 'politically motivated murder.'
Law enforcement in Minnesota has identified Vance Boelter as the primary suspect in a violent incident that resulted in the deaths of two Democratic congress members, described by authorities as a politically motivated murder.

The suspect's involvement was officially confirmed during a press conference conducted by Drew Evans, chief of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Authorities were alerted to the situation at approximately 2 a.m. on Saturday.

Preliminary investigations indicated that Boelter first entered the residence of Congresswoman Mary Hoffman, where he attacked her and her partner while they were asleep.

Evidence collected at the scene includes bullet holes found in the front door.

Around 90 minutes later, he allegedly moved to the home of Congresswoman Melissa Hortman, fatally shooting her and her husband.

When police arrived at Hortman’s residence, they observed a large vehicle resembling those used by law enforcement agencies, with its hazard lights activated.

Witnesses reported seeing Boelter, dressed in clothing similar to police uniforms, exit the house.

Upon encountering responding officers, he reportedly discharged his weapon and fled on foot.

The Minnesota State Police confirmed that the vehicle linked to Boelter, which is currently in their custody, bore license plates marked 'Police' and was equipped with a siren on its roof.

Inside the vehicle, investigators discovered a manifesto along with a list noting the names of individuals, including the two slain congress members.

The suspect, described as the director of security patrols for a private security group operating in Minnesota, had utilized operational methods closely resembling those of law enforcement personnel.

This detail has raised substantial concerns given that he conducted the attack while impersonating a police officer, wearing a bulletproof vest and attire typical of police uniforms.

Drew Evans remarked that the last known sighting of Boelter depicted him wearing a cowboy hat, a long-sleeve patterned shirt, light fabric pants, and carrying a black bag.

Authorities have urged the public to report any sightings of him to emergency services, although it is suspected that he may have already exited the city.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz characterized the attack as indicative of an assassination carried out for political reasons.

Additional details surrounding the manifesto and the complete list of names remain undisclosed; however, local reports suggest that it may include several individuals involved in abortion rights activism, among others, and may feature additional congress members.
