New Executive Appointed at Banco Nacional Amidst Leadership Changes

Randall Monge Saborío named as the new director of Banco Nacional following the resignation of Alejandro Solórzano.
The Costa Rican government has appointed Randall Monge Saborío as the new director of Banco Nacional (BN) to replace Alejandro Solórzano, who resigned for personal reasons.

This appointment was made by the Council of Government on June 3, following Solórzano's resignation on June 2. Unlike previous appointments, the Presidency did not publicly announce this change.

Solórzano confirmed his resignation to local media, citing personal motives.

Randall Monge, an experienced business administrator who previously served as the general attorney at Banco Internacional de Costa Rica (Bicsa), was sworn in shortly after his appointment.

In a notable departure from protocol, the Presidency did not issue any press release regarding this appointment, contrasting with prior communications surrounding other directorate changes, including the dismissal of former board members due to internal conflicts regarding the appointment of general manager Rosaysella Ulloa.

Banco Nacional provided an official notice through the Superintendencia General de Valores (Sugeval), confirming Monge's integration into the newly formed board of directors.

The new board was established temporarily by the Council of Government on May 28, and the integrations were corroborated on June 3.

A communication sent to the Presidency by local media on June 3 inquired whether Monge had officially taken over Solórzano’s position and whether the new appointment had been communicated to the board’s secretariat.

As of the article's deadline, no response had been received from the Presidency.

Further inquiries directed to Banco Nacional regarding the completion of the board and the government’s notification of the new appointment yielded a response on June 5. The bank confirmed in a press release titled "Nueva Junta Directiva del BN elige su directorio" that Randall Monge is now part of the board of Banco Nacional.

The new board is comprised of President Maximiliano Alvarado Ramírez, Vice President Noylin Cruz Suárez, Secretary Rolando Saborío Jiménez, and directors María Brenes Quesada, María del Milagro Solórzano León, Anabelle Chaves Soto, and Randall Monge Saborío. According to a previous statement by the Presidency dated May 28, this new board is to serve temporarily until a new selection process concludes.

Banco Nacional is recognized as the largest financial institution in Costa Rica, reporting assets totaling ¢8.45 trillion as of April.
