Revival of Costa Rican Baseball Championship After Seven-Year Hiatus

Revival of Costa Rican Baseball Championship After Seven-Year Hiatus

Estadio Antonio Escarré set to host National League games as teams prepare for the 2025 Central American Sports Games in Guatemala.
After a seven-year pause, the Estadio Antonio Escarré in Costa Rica will once again host first division baseball games, providing players with the opportunity to be considered for the national team.

The stadium's reopening coincides with preparations for the XIII Central American Sports Games, scheduled to be held from October 18 to 30, 2025, in Guatemala.

The upcoming season marks a revival of the Superior Baseball League in Costa Rica with the participation of four teams.

Representing the league this season are CODEA AquaWorks, La Carpio, and Oppein, along with a team from Nicaragua.

The commencement of the league features a match between Nicaragua and La Carpio, scheduled to begin at 8:15 a.m., while CODEA will face Oppein at the same time at Polideportivo Monserrat.

A tournament format involving double-header matches of seven innings each has been established, with a single match accommodating nine innings.

Throughout the season, each team will engage in 12 qualifying games across two rounds.

The top team will automatically secure a spot in the final, whereas teams finishing in second and third places will compete in a best-of-three series to determine the other finalist.

The team finishing fourth will be eliminated.

This year's tournament is dedicated to Mario Guzmán García, a renowned figure in Costa Rican baseball history, noted for his leadership in national teams and leagues.

According to Adrián Alfaro, president of the Costa Rican Baseball Federation, the league's primary goals are to increase game volume and competitive cycles for high-performance athletes.

Revitalizing the Estadio Nacional Antonio Escarré is also a focus, aimed at fostering domestic baseball talent.

The league also aims to prepare clubs and national teams for regional competitions, positioning Costa Rica's baseball team for an impressive showing at the upcoming games in Guatemala.
