A magnitude 4.4 earthquake was recorded in Guanacaste on April 8, 2025, with no reported damages.
On April 8, 2025, a magnitude 4.4 earthquake occurred in the Guanacaste region of
Costa Rica at 7:02 AM local time, according to the country's Volcanological and Seismological Observatory (OVSICORI).
The epicenter of the quake was located approximately 50 kilometers west of Tamarindo, at a depth of 34 kilometers.
Residents in various communities, including Matapalo, Tamarindo, Cartagena, Playas del Coco, Sardinal, and Santa Bárbara, experienced the tremor, describing the intensity as moderate to light.
Despite the noticeable seismic activity, there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The earthquake was attributed to tectonic subduction, a common cause of seismic events in
Costa Rica's Pacific region.
This event follows a series of tremors that were also felt earlier in the morning, with magnitudes of 3.5 and 3.9 recorded near Paso Canoas, although these too resulted in no adverse effects.
