Shooting Incident in San Francisco de Dos Ríos Results in Two Fatalities

Authorities investigate a double homicide following a shooting involving Jamaican nationals in Costa Rica.
On the afternoon of Saturday, June 14, a shooting incident in San Francisco de Dos Ríos, San José, resulted in two fatalities, as confirmed by the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ).

Initially, police responded to reports of gunfire within a residence located in Urbanización La Pacífica.

At the scene, authorities discovered five Jamaican men; one was found deceased, three sustained injuries, and one was unharmed.

Five firearms were seized from the location.

The deceased individual has been identified only by the surname Omar.

The injured men were transported to San Juan de Dios and Calderón Guardia hospitals for treatment.

On the morning of Sunday, June 15, the OIJ reported that one of the wounded men, identified as 45-year-old Lawrence, a Jamaican national and naturalized Costa Rican, succumbed to his injuries at Calderón Guardia Hospital after being shot multiple times.

The investigation has now escalated to a double homicide case.

The remaining two injured victims are currently hospitalized, while a fifth man, also of Jamaican nationality, present at the residence during the incident, was unharmed.

According to preliminary police hypotheses, a vehicle arrived at the urbanization, from which several individuals exited and entered the house.

Initially, it was believed that the shooting took place in a public area, but this theory has been dismissed.

Ten minutes after the suspects entered the residence, neighbors reported hearing gunfire.

Following the shooting, three individuals reportedly attempted to steal two vehicles to escape the scene but were unsuccessful.

As an alternative, they stole a motorcycle, which was deserted shortly thereafter.

The motorcycle, reported stolen just minutes after the incident, was discovered abandoned on a public road in Calle Blancos.

OIJ forensic teams, including the Sections of Crime Scene Investigations and Homicides, have been examining the motorcycle, other vehicles, and the residence for evidence to locate the suspects.

Although five firearms were initially recovered on Saturday, the number has since increased to six; this includes two rifles, four handguns, several magazines, and a quantity of marijuana.

The bodies have been sent to the morgue for autopsy procedures.
