Costa Rica’s state-run utility, ICE, has signed the first of four contracts to expand the country’s renewable energy capacity through new wind farms.

The projects are part of a long-term strategy to maintain Costa Rica’s status as a global leader in clean energy.

Officials say the initiative will reinforce energy independence while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
