William Rodríguez experienced a health episode during a government council meeting.
William Rodríguez, the Minister of Tourism of
Costa Rica, was transported to a hospital in the capital following a health episode during the weekly Council of Government meeting at the Presidential House on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Arnold Zamora, the Minister of Communication, Rodríguez experienced a descompensation during the session.
He was reportedly conscious and stable at the time of his ambulance transfer for routine medical evaluation.
The 74-year-old minister had participated in a press conference led by President Rodrigo Chaves before the cabinet meeting.
In this conference, Rodríguez addressed the recent decline in tourist arrivals to
Costa Rica.
He pointed out that airlines in Europe and the United States have reduced their capacity in terms of available seats to the country.
Rodríguez also noted that the drop in visitor numbers between September and October of the previous year was associated with the U.S. elections scheduled for November.
Luis Carlos Monge, the director of Information and Communication at the Presidential Office, stated that further updates regarding Rodríguez's health status would be provided once available.
