Devastating Fire in Tibás: Firefighters and Nearby Residents Affected

A significant blaze at Portones Salas in Tibás prompts emergency response and evacuations.
On March 12, 2025, a large fire broke out in a warehouse located at Portones Salas, a structure measuring over 1,200 square meters, in the Cinco Esquinas area of Tibás, approximately 150 meters from the Clorito Picado Clinic.

The fire reportedly started around 10 a.m. due to sparks from welding activities being conducted in a remodeling project at the facility.

Firefighters responded promptly, addressing not only the blaze but also the health of those who intervened and nearby residents.

Josué Sandoval, a paramedic from the firefighting unit, stated that a total of nine individuals required medical assistance, including firefighters suffering from heat-related ailments and a woman who experienced a panic attack due to the threat to her home.

Fortunately, none of the firefighters needed hospital transport.

Paramedics monitored their vital signs closely while they fought the fire in extreme conditions.

Cruz Roja, the local Red Cross, also deployed personnel to support the firefighting team, although they reported no additional injuries among community members.

Workers from the affected warehouse described a rapid escalation of the situation, indicating that they were forced to flee for their safety as smoke filled the space.

Witness accounts confirmed that efforts to utilize fire extinguishers were unsuccessful due to the intensity of the flames and smoke.

The regional fire director, Héctor Chaves, confirmed that witness statements suggested the fire was a result of welding activities occurring in the eastern section of the plant.

Extensive damage was caused, affecting an area of approximately 2,100 square meters.

The fire also prompted the suspension of medical consultations at the nearby Clorito Picado Clinic, as evacuation protocols were followed and all appointments were canceled.

The clinic’s director, Carlos Alberto Solano, indicated that patients would be contacted to reschedule their missed appointments.

There were no emergency patients at the clinic at the time of the fire, but guidelines were in place to redirect any such cases to Hospital México.

As firefighters continue to manage the emergency, the blaze is reported to be under control.
