Two men shot dead in broad daylight, highlighting ongoing violence in Costa Rica's Limón province.
On the afternoon of March 12, 2025, a double homicide occurred in Los Lirios, Limón,
Costa Rica, when two men were shot while conversing outside a residence.
The incident took place around 1:30 p.m., according to reports from the Red Cross.
The victims were identified as 42-year-old Sánchez Mora, found lying outside the house, and 30-year-old Selva Velázquez, discovered inside the residence.
Witnesses reported that a brother of Sánchez Mora, who was in the bathroom at the time of the attack, heard the gunshots and witnessed four individuals dressed in black with motorcycle helmets fleeing the scene on two motorcycles.
In light of this incident, statistics released by the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) show that Limón province has recorded a total of 34 homicides in 2025, which is ten fewer than the number recorded by the same date in 2024. The ongoing issue of violent crime in Limón has raised alarms regarding public safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement efforts in the area.
