Leadership Changes Mark New Beginnings in Costa Rica's Public and Private Sectors

Significant appointments announced in the construction industry, competition commission, and university administration amidst broader organizational shifts.
In the latest wave of leadership renewals, notable changes have been announced across various sectors in Costa Rica, involving both the public and private arenas.

Among them, the Costa Rican Chamber of Construction (CCC) and the Council for Promoting Competition (Coprocom) have appointed new presidents, marking a pivotal transition period for these institutions.

Chamber of Construction Elects New President
Alfredo Volio Guerrero has been elected as the new president of the CCC for the 2025-2026 term, succeeding Carlos Trejos.

Volio, who previously served as vice president on the board, is the executive director of Portafolio Inmobiliario, a key player in various developmental projects including Aleste and Avenida Escazú.

An alumnus of the United States Military Academy at West Point in civil engineering, Volio brings substantial expertise to his new role.

Accompanying him in leadership are Edgar Navarro Marín, Esteban Acón Rojas, and many others, comprising an extensively experienced board.

Coprocom Welcomes Back Viviana Blanco
Viviana Blanco Barboza has resumed her role as president of Coprocom, after first holding the position in 2022.

Blanco replaces Guillermo Rojas Guzmán and is committed to enhancing Costa Rica's economic competition framework as aligned with the OECD commitments.

Her extensive background includes over 15 years in Mexican competition authorities, bringing a wealth of experience to the organization.

Prysmian and Magnar Systems Announce Key Appointments
Prysmian, a leader in cables and energy systems, has announced the departure of Raúl Gil Boronat as CEO, to be succeeded by Giacomo Sofía in January 2025.

Sofía, with a longstanding career in logistics and operations within the company, is set to lead their strategic initiatives in the region.

Magnar Systems, focusing on HR and payroll management solutions, has appointed Guido Goicoechea and Tetiana Tarapata to spearhead their new office in Costa Rica.

Goicoechea will oversee the value delivery of Magnar's solutions, while Tarapata will drive business development and strategic partnerships across the region.

University of Costa Rica’s New Leadership
Carlos Araya Leandro has taken over as the new rector of the University of Costa Rica (UCR), joining a slate of new vice-rectors who aim to steer the institution through its next chapter.

Araya, an economist with a solid academic background from the University of Granada, replaces Gustavo Gutiérrez Espeleta.

Other Noteworthy Appointments
