Traffic Officer Suspended for Alleged Sexual Misconduct with Minor in Turrialba

Judicial authorities impose stringent measures against officer accused of soliciting sexual acts from a teenager.
The Penal Court of Turrialba in Cartago has suspended a traffic police officer, identified by the last names Campos Quesada, for a period of one year amid allegations of soliciting sexual acts from a minor.

The officer, 33 years old, is under investigation for reportedly offering ¢20,000 to a high school student in exchange for sexual acts, as well as showing the minor sexual images.

As part of the measures imposed by the court, Campos is required to maintain a fixed residence in Las Colonias de La Suiza, Turrialba, and must sign monthly at the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Additional restrictions include a prohibition on leaving the country, approaching the victim's home or place of study, contacting witnesses, and making any public statements regarding the allegations.

The officer faces charges related to the dissemination of pornography, engaging in sexual acts with a minor for compensation, and abuse of authority.

These allegations emerged following an incident on Monday evening, when the officer reportedly stopped the juvenile who was returning home from school on a motorcycle, allegedly due to a mechanical failure with his police vehicle.

During the encounter, the officer allegedly requested the young man's identification documents and mobile phone, which he then scrutinized.

Reports indicate that Campos informed the minor that he would need to issue a ticket costing ¢700,000 but suggested they could resolve the situation at a location known as the Carrizal crossing in La Suiza de Turrialba.

It is at this location that the officer is accused of making the suggestive offer and presenting the sexual images.

Minutes later, officers from the Fuerza Pública and family members of the victim arrived at the scene after the young man communicated his situation while en route.

Local residents confronted the officer that night, expressing concerns about his decision to take the minor to a secluded area.
