The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announces temporary suspension of vehicle restrictions during Semana Santa.
In
Costa Rica, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) has announced a temporary suspension of vehicle restrictions throughout the Holy Week period.
Starting Friday, April 11, which commemorates the Battle of Rivas, vehicles will be allowed to enter San José without any plate restrictions.
This exemption will remain in effect during the Holy Week, including the holidays on Thursday, April 17, and Friday, April 18. Additionally, due to the public sector's collective vacation, there will not be any vehicle restrictions on Holy Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, which fall on April 14, 15, and 16, respectively.
According to Martín Sánchez, the deputy director of the Traffic Police, the decision to lift these restrictions is based on the significant reduction in the flow of people coming to and leaving the capital during these dates, rendering the restrictions unnecessary.
Law enforcement resources that typically focus on San José will be redirected to coastal areas and rural regions during this period to address increased traffic in those locations.
It is important to note that regular vehicle restrictions will resume on Monday, April 21.
