Alonso Solís Exits 'Vis10n', Leaving Behind Significant Tax Debt
The former host's departure from the popular sports program raises concerns about the financial status of the company behind it.
A month ago, Alonso Solís announced his departure from 'Vis10n', a television program he co-founded in 2017 alongside fellow former footballers Atim Roper and Andrey Campos.
With Solís's exit, the program faces not only a leadership change but also substantial tax liabilities with the Ministry of Finance.
Solís, Roper, and Campos established a corporate entity named 'La Vision del Diez Sociedad Anonima', for the management of the program, which airs on Columbia.
Solís served as the company treasurer.
As of June 9, records from the Ministry of Finance indicate that the company owed 28,408,518 Costa Rican colones (approximately $47,300) due to 67 outstanding tax claims.
The oldest of these claims dates back to December 2019, encompassing income tax, value-added tax, and educational and cultural stamp duties.
Among the total debts, 47 claims are currently subjected to judicial collection processes, amounting to 25,210,774 colones, while the remaining 20 claims consist of regular administrative collections totaling 3,197,744 colones.
On June 4, inquiries from the press regarding the status of the debts were made to the Ministry of Finance, but no response was provided by the time of publication.
The online system still lists these debts as valid, indicating that the reported amounts pertain solely to the principal, excluding interest or penalties for late payment.
In response to inquiries about his departure and the debt, Solís stated he has been dissociated from the company for two months and that his attorney is handling his delisting, although no documentation to substantiate this claim was provided.
According to Solís, his exit is unrelated to the debt and stems from a renewed commitment to football, currently serving as an assistant coach in a local club.
On the same date, Atim Roper, the president of the corporate entity overseeing 'Vis10n', disputed Solís's claim regarding his disassociation from the company.
Roper affirmed that he was certain no official delisting had occurred.
He acknowledged the ongoing debt, attributing it to poor administrative management and expressing a commitment to resolving the matter.
Roper indicated that they are seeking a payment arrangement and emphasized the importance of continuing the program to address the debt.
Roper admitted that all three members share responsibility for the financial status of the company and expressed a desire to rectify the situation while keeping the program operational.
He noted recent efforts to engage with financial advisors to facilitate the payment process.
Despite the administrative challenges faced, Roper maintained that it would be easier to dissolve the company rather than resolve the debts, highlighting a commitment to continue their work diligently.
As of June 10, Solís modified his earlier statements, affirming awareness of the debt among all three members and indicating that discussions regarding payment arrangements had taken place.
He acknowledged shared responsibility for the financial obligations of the company while detailing his decision to forfeit his dividends to Roper and Campos upon his resignation from the program.
The recent developments regarding the financial status of 'Vis10n' underscore the complexities faced by media entities and the implications of fiscal management within the entertainment sector, particularly as they navigate evolving economic landscapes.
