Disappearance of Costa Rican Taxi Driver Raises Alarm as Vehicle is Found Abandoned

Heyner Enrique Jara Porras, a 43-year-old informal taxi driver, has been missing since June 4, prompting a search after his vehicle was located in Guanacaste.
The case of Heyner Enrique Jara Porras, a 43-year-old informal taxi driver from Cañas, Guanacaste, has drawn significant attention following his unexplained disappearance on the morning of June 4, 2025. Jara was last heard from shortly after departing from his residence for work.

According to reports, he communicated with his partner around 11:20 AM to request help in arranging a delivery of gas.

After that conversation, his family and friends attempted to contact him multiple times without success.

On June 5, authorities located Jara's vehicle, a 1991 Nissan B13, abandoned in a remote area known as Rancho Alegre, which is in proximity to his home.

Inside the vehicle, investigators reportedly found one of Jara's distinctive footwear, but no further personal belongings, such as his cellphone, charger, or any cash.

The absence of other items has raised concerns among his loved ones, particularly regarding the nature of his disappearance.

Shasel Picado Alvarado, Jara's partner, shared details of the discovery with local news outlets, expressing growing worry over the implications of the findings.

She mentioned that the shoe found in the vehicle matched the pair Jara was wearing on the day he vanished.

Efforts to contact Jara's mobile phone have continued, but his number remains unanswered, and he has not been active on WhatsApp since his disappearance.

Friends and family began organizing search efforts along the stretch of road between Rancho Alegre and Guapinol following the discovery of his car.

The Regional Judicial Police are involved in the investigation, collecting fingerprints and other evidence from the vehicle as part of their inquiry.

The official search for Heyner Jara continues, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward through designated confidential hotlines.

The circumstances surrounding Jara’s disappearance remain unclear, leading to increased anxiety among his immediate family and the community in Cañas, highlighting concerns over safety and the well-being of individuals working in informal employment in the area.
