Territorio de Zaguates faces significant loss as fire consumes staff housing, affecting operations and prompting a call for donations.
On Thursday afternoon, a fire engulfed the residence where staff members of the dog rescue shelter Territorio de Zaguates lived, located in Santa Bárbara de Heredia,
Costa Rica.
The organization reported the incident on their social media platforms, stating that the structure, described as a small house, was completely destroyed by the flames.
Fortunately, all staff members escaped unharmed, and no pets were trapped in the blaze.
The affected building, which was constructed sometime between the 1950s and 1960s, has been recognized for its age by Lya Christina Battle, the founder of the shelter.
Although the specific cause of the fire remains unknown, Battle acknowledged the condition of the edifice, emphasizing its antiquated state.
The fire has displaced seven staff members, prompting Territorio de Zaguates to issue a call for donations to assist in rebuilding their home and replacing lost supplies, including food, clothing, and furniture.
The organization indicated that current arrangements have temporarily relocated the affected staff to an area intended for laundry.
The shelter serves as a refuge for approximately 1,800 rescued dogs.
For those wishing to contribute, the organization has provided a contact number for assistance.
