Liga BBVA MX Final First Leg: América and Toluca Draw 0-0

In a tactical showdown at Estadio Azteca, América and Toluca end first leg of the final without goals.
In the first leg of the Liga BBVA MX final held on May 22, 2025, América and Toluca played to a goalless draw at Estadio Azteca, presenting a match that favored strategy over excitement.

Both teams entered the match with significant aspirations: América aimed for their fourth consecutive title, while Toluca sought to capitalize on a solid tournament performance, albeit without their star striker Paulinho, who was ruled out due to last-minute muscle issues.

The match's dynamics leaned heavily towards a defensive strategy employed by Toluca, which limited offensive opportunities and contributed to a lackluster display on the field.

América maintained possession and was tasked with the responsibility of generating chances but failed to execute with creativity and depth.

Conversely, Toluca executed a tight defensive formation aimed at exploiting any errors from their opponents.

Throughout the match, the most notable opportunities arose for América.

A header from Borja was cleared off the line, and a powerful shot from Fidalgo forced a save from Toluca’s goalkeeper Luis García. Despite these chances, the overall tempo remained slow, and few other significant actions occurred.

Adjustments made by América's coach, Jardine, did not yield the desired effect, while Toluca's coach, Mohamed, appeared content to maintain the status quo of their well-organized backline.

This stalemate leaves the tie entirely open as both teams prepare for the return leg.

Toluca must find ways to transition effectively from defense to offense, while América seeks to rediscover the attacking flair that has characterized their season.

The decisive second leg is set to take place at Estadio Nemesio Diez on Sunday at 7 PM, where the title will be on the line, and both teams must adopt an assertive approach to secure victory.
