Paris Saint-Germain Secures Historic First Champions League Title with 5-0 Victory

In a dominant performance, PSG thrashes Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final at Munich's Allianz Arena.
On May 31, 2025, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) claimed their first UEFA Champions League title, defeating Inter Milan 5-0 at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.

The French club's performance marked a historic achievement, as they became the first team to win the Champions League final by a five-goal margin.

The match began with an aggressive start from PSG, as they took the lead in the 12th minute through Achraf Hakimi, who scored following a well-coordinated play.

Désiré Doué, a 19-year-old French forward, was pivotal in the scoring, assisting Hakimi's goal and later netting two goals himself.

Just seven minutes later, Doué scored again, extending PSG's lead to 2-0 in the 20th minute, after a setup from Ousmane Dembélé.

PSG maintained their momentum into the second half, with Doué adding a third goal in the 63rd minute, showcasing his speed and positioning.

The scoring continued with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia finding the net in the 73rd minute, and Senny Mayulu rounding off the scoring with a fifth goal in the 86th minute, sealing a comprehensive victory for the Parisian club.

This win capped a remarkable season for PSG, who also claimed the Ligue 1 title, the Coupe de France, and the French Supercup, achieving a rare quadruple in domestic and European competitions.

The path to this triumph, however, came after years of significant investment.

Since being acquired by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011, PSG has invested over $2 billion in player transfers to build a competitive team, with high-profile signings including Neymar and Kylian Mbappé.

Luis Enrique, PSG's manager, has been credited with transforming the squad.

Under his leadership, the team moved away from relying solely on star power, instead focusing on cohesive team play that exploited their opponents’ weaknesses.

This strategic change paid off in a tournament that has historically eluded the club, including a previous final loss to Bayern Munich in 2020.

The final was notably emotional for Enrique, as he dedicated the victory to his late daughter, Xana, who passed away in 2019. Supporters and players alike paid tribute, with messages visible in the stands celebrating her memory.

The Inter Milan squad, which had previously eliminated Barcelona in the semifinals, struggled to respond throughout the match, seemingly caught off guard by PSG's aggressive tactics and fluid gameplay.

Despite the overwhelming outcome, the match did not reflect the capabilities demonstrated by Inter during their earlier victories.

This landmark victory underscores the emergent dominance of PSG in European football, setting a new standard for future Champions League finals.
