Former Chaves Minister and Campaign Trust Director Assume Key Roles in Political Party
Francisco Gamboa and Carlos Vásquez Landergren take on leadership positions within the Pueblo Soberano Party.
Francisco Gamboa, the former Minister of Economy, and Carlos Vásquez Landergren, the former director of the campaign trust for current President Rodrigo Chaves, have assumed significant roles within the Pueblo Soberano Party (PPSO) this past Sunday.
Gamboa has been appointed as the Secretary General, while Vásquez will serve as the Treasurer in the party's executive committee.
The appointments were made during the National Assembly of PPSO, led by Mayuli Ortega, a member of the Presidential House.
The assembly was held in Pavas, where delegates approved a reform allowing the party's presidential candidate to recommend up to 14 candidates for congressional positions.
Francisco Gamboa resigned from his ministerial post on January 30, just prior to the deadline for government officials wishing to run for the Presidency or vice-presidencies in the upcoming 2026 elections.
At the assembly, Gamboa did not confirm whether PPSO would align as the ruling party but emphasized the aim to continue the objectives of President Chaves's administration.
"Upon arriving at this assembly, I see enormous motivation, which aligns with the sentiments across the country—a populace that has decided to open their eyes," Gamboa stated ahead of the assembly proceedings, conveying a sense of urgency and commitment to engage with party goals.
The assembly commenced with a quorum of 73 delegates, amidst expectations of announcements regarding the party's relationship with the legislative faction supporting President Chaves.
