The National Emergency Commission warns of potential flooding and heavy rains across most of the country.
The National Emergency Commission (CNE) of
Costa Rica has declared a yellow alert across nearly the entire nation due to the influence of Tropical Wave No. 4 and the intertropical convergence zone.
These weather phenomena are expected to cause significant rainfall throughout the afternoon and evening of June 1, 2025.
The yellow alert covers all regions of the country except for the Southern Caribbean region, where a green alert is in effect, indicating less severe weather conditions.
The tropical wave, which has already led to rainfall over the weekend, is projected to continue moving over the national territory this afternoon and is expected to exit the area by nightfall.
The National Meteorological Institute (IMN) forecasts heavy showers and thunderstorms especially in the North Pacific, Central Pacific, Northern Zone, and the mountains of the Northern Caribbean.
Areas such as the Southern Pacific, Garabito, and the Sarapiquí River Basin are experiencing saturated soils due to previous rainfall, thereby increasing the risk of flooding.
The IMN has recommended that residents exercise caution against potential flooding, seek shelter during thunderstorms, and remain vigilant about gusty winds as conditions may worsen.
