New Suspects Arrested in the Rashab García and Nelson Pavón Murder Case

Two additional individuals detained in connection with the double homicide of model Rashab García Valverde and Nelson Pavón Largaespada.
On May 22, 2025, the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) announced the arrest of two new suspects in the ongoing investigation into the murders of model Rashab García Valverde and her friend Nelson Pavón Largaespada.

The suspects, identified as 28-year-old Duarte and 27-year-old Montenegro, were apprehended in Puntarenas, fulfilling ongoing efforts to solve the double homicide that occurred on April 25, 2025.

Duarte was arrested at the Centro Semi-Institucional del Roble, while Montenegro was captured in the Chacarita area.

According to investigators, both individuals are being actively pursued as part of the broader inquiry into the case, which has drawn considerable media attention due to the nature of the crime.

Additionally, Montenegro had previously been detained and was already linked to the case due to allegations that he attempted to clean the crime scene.

The two suspects were presented to the Public Ministry for legal proceedings to establish their status.

García, 32, and Pavón, 34, were reported missing after a party at the residence of García's boyfriend, Manfred Bustos Mata, alias 'Negro.' Days following their disappearance, human remains were discovered in a wooded area in Orotina, later confirmed to be those of García and Pavón.

Bustos Mata is currently considered the primary suspect in the murders.

He, along with another suspect named Brenes Castillo, is also being investigated.

Brenes was previously apprehended while operating García's vehicle and has conditions imposed on his release, including biweekly check-ins with authorities.

The investigation has revealed complications surrounding the aftermath of the crime, including the alleged dismemberment of the victims and the subsequent transport of their bodies in a Dodge Ram pickup truck.

Indicators of violence were also found, as traces of blood were discovered at the site where the bodies were believed to have been disposed of.

The case continues to evolve, and authorities are appealing for public assistance in gathering information related to the events preceding and following the crime, as the search for justice in this brutal case remains a priority.
