Costa Rica's U-17 National Team Preparations for World Cup

The team schedules friendly matches against Colombia, Brazil, and Bolivia ahead of the Qatar tournament.
The Costa Rican U-17 national team is gearing up for the FIFA U-17 World Cup by organizing a series of friendly matches against several international teams, including Colombia and Brazil.

The national football federation (Fedefútbol) has confirmed that the U-17 squad, coached by Rándall Row, will host Colombia for two practice matches on October 26 and October 28. These matches will take place behind closed doors at the Proyecto Gol facilities in Costa Rica.

Costa Rica secured its spot in the World Cup, which will occur in Qatar from November 5 to November 27, 2023. This will mark the eleventh appearance of the U-17 team at the World Cup, returning to the tournament for the first time in eight years.

Costa Rica has been placed in Group C alongside Senegal, Croatia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Row indicated that the team recently completed a microcyle of training and played a domestic match as part of their preparations.

He noted that the upcoming friendly matches against Colombia, which finished second in the CONMEBOL qualifiers, would help the team refine their tactics and performance ahead of the tournament.

Following the Colombian matches, the U-17 team is scheduled to travel to Brazil in August for two matchups against the South American champions.

After returning from Brazil, the team will also play two matches in Peru.

Additionally, Bolivia, which has qualified for the World Cup after an 18-year absence, will visit Costa Rica in September for two more friendlies.

Row expressed the importance of these friendly matches, stating they will provide essential competitive experience and allow the team to establish their rhythm and strategic approach before the World Cup.

He emphasized that the team's goal is to represent Costa Rica well on the global stage and strive for a historic performance.

As part of their strategy, the coaching staff plans to seek out opponents with playing styles similar to their World Cup rivals to maximize preparation effectiveness.

Colombia is noted to have a profile akin to Senegal, while Brazil's style mirrors that of Croatia.

The microcyles of training that Row conducted have allowed the players to be concentrated and focused, contributing to the team's overall development.

The scheduled matches during the World Cup for Costa Rica include:
- Costa Rica vs.

United Arab Emirates on November 3;
- Senegal vs.

Costa Rica on November 6;
- Croatia vs.

Costa Rica on November 9.
