Concerns Mount for Cartaginés Player Bernald Alfaro Following Latest Injury Setback

The midfielder's ongoing injury issues raise alarms within the team after his recent performance against Alajuelense.
Bernald Alfaro, a 28-year-old midfielder for Cartaginés, has once again fallen victim to injuries, with his latest setback occurring during a match against Alajuelense.

Alfaro entered the game as a substitute but was forced to leave the field after just 19 minutes due to discomfort in his left leg.

Video footage captured on FUTV showed him visibly in pain, prompting an immediate substitution for Jeikel Venegas.

Alfaro's injury troubles have persisted since he joined Cartaginés in December 2022. Shortly after his arrival, he sustained a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, which sidelined him for nearly an entire season.

The implications of his injuries have raised concerns within the team, particularly for its management and coaching staff.

Leonardo Vargas, the president of Cartaginés, expressed unease regarding Alfaro's condition, noting that initial assessments indicated a muscular issue.

Vargas acknowledged the coordinated efforts made to support Alfaro's recovery since his ligament injury, highlighting potential lingering effects that may have contributed to his recent struggles.

"Without a doubt, he is the most affected by this situation and surely not happy with his predicament.

As a team, we must provide him with our support," Vargas stated.

He emphasized that Alfaro has shown commitment and dedication towards regaining full fitness, although results have yet to match his hard work.

Alfaro has logged a modest total of 55 minutes in the current tournament season, as reported by Unafut.

Following the match against Alajuelense, head coach Andrés Carevic also voiced his concerns regarding Alfaro's persistent injuries.

He confirmed that Alfaro experienced discomfort in the posterior region of his leg, necessitating his substitution shortly after entering the game.

"We are a bit worried about his situation; following his recovery from the ligament rupture, he has faced significant challenges with recurring injuries.

Everything necessary is being done to ensure he can recover fully and perform at his best," Carevic remarked.

He noted that the frequency of these injuries has hindered Alfaro's ability to train consistently.

Attempts to reach Alfaro for comment have been unsuccessful.

The team and supporters continue to hope for his swift recovery and return to the pitch.
