Costa Rica has enacted a constitutional amendment allowing the extradition of its own citizens for serious crimes, including international drug trafficking and terrorism.

The policy shift is part of a new agreement with the United States and is aimed at strengthening cross-border judicial cooperation in combating organized crime networks operating in the region.
