Significant decreases in gasoline, diesel, and cooking gas prices set to take effect next week.
On April 4, 2025, the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep) in
Costa Rica approved a notable reduction in fuel prices, impacting the most commonly consumed fuels in the country.
The price of super gasoline will drop from ¢682 to ¢673, a decrease of ¢9. Regular gasoline will see a more substantial reduction from ¢671 to ¢642, translating to a reduction of ¢29. Additionally, the price of diesel will decrease from ¢592 to ¢569, representing a ¢23 decrease.
Furthermore, the price of cooking gas, specifically the 25-pound cylinder, will lower from ¢7,694 to ¢7,535, a drop of ¢159.
This decision follows Aresep's extraordinary study conducted in March 2025 (RE-00021-IE-2025), which analyzes shipments managed by the Refinadora Costarricense de Petróleo (Recope) from February 14 to March 13, 2025.
The price reductions in gasoline and diesel will benefit approximately 1.9 million users, including both private and public transportation vehicle owners.
For cooking gas, the adjustment is expected to positively impact around 800,000 users across the country, which accounts for 49% of national households.
Small businesses, such as sodas and bakeries that rely on cooking gas for food preparation, will also benefit from this change.
Aresep has commenced the process of publication through the Imprenta Nacional, with expectations that the reductions will take effect next week, just ahead of the Holy Week season.
