Expomóvil 2025: Key Considerations for First-Time Car Buyers in Costa Rica

New graduates navigate the complexities of purchasing their first vehicle at the Expomóvil 2025 automotive fair.
Expomóvil 2025 in Costa Rica has garnered significant interest from prospective car buyers, particularly young graduates under the age of 25 looking to invest their savings in their first vehicle.

The automotive fair has presented a multitude of options, which can be overwhelming for these first-time buyers as they encounter an array of complex specifications and features.

Carlos Ramírez, a 24-year-old university graduate, expressed his uncertainty about the vehicle market.

He emphasized a desire to purchase a car but admitted to lacking knowledge about the available options.

Ana María Sequeira, the Director of Corporate Relations and Sustainability at Grupo Purdy, emphasized the importance of market research before making a decision.

She stated that understanding the different car segments—from compact models to 4x4 vehicles—is crucial for selecting a model that fits individual needs.

In addition to researching options, defining the intended use of the vehicle is crucial.

Angélica Villalta, who is 23, is excited about the prospect of owning a car but is reminded by experts to consider her daily routine.

Sequeira noted that vehicles designed for family use have different requirements compared to those intended for work or daily commuting.

Valeria González, also 24, highlighted the importance of having a vehicle that accommodates her lifestyle and ensures comfort.

Allan Chaves, Sales Manager at Cori Motors, pointed out that compact models are more efficient for urban driving, while 4x4 vehicles offer greater versatility for frequent travelers or adventure seekers.

Furthermore, safety features and space are significant considerations, especially if buyers anticipate sharing their vehicle with family or friends.

Prospective buyers should also consider the long-term relationship with the dealership post-purchase.

Sequeira advised that maintenance services, warranties, and the availability of customer support from the dealership contribute to the buyer's peace of mind.

She recommended that potential buyers inquire about the type of support the dealership offers and the safety level of the models they are interested in.

The role of advisory services in vehicle sales has evolved.

Chaves noted that modern car sales should focus on identifying the actual needs of customers, considering factors like budget, lifestyle, and expectations before recommending options.

Digital platforms also serve as valuable tools for comparing prices, specifications, and benefits, facilitating the decision-making process for buyers such as Dennis Castro, a recent graduate who acknowledged his lack of experience in conducting comparative research.

The Expomóvil 2025 event will remain open to the public until March 30, with operating hours from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekdays, and until 7:00 p.m. on Sundays.

The event features models from over 76 brands, offering varied financing options for interested buyers.
