Osael Maroto, president of the Federación Costarricense de Fútbol (Fedefútbol), discussed the possibility of appointing a new assistant coach for the national football team following the recent departure of Paulo Wanchope.

Wanchope, who left to take the reins at Saprissa, was noted for his extensive knowledge of the national football environment and significant experience.

In comments made prior to the Copa final between Alajuelense and Puntarenas, Maroto emphasized that Fedefútbol is not in a rush to fill the role of assistant coach.

He stated, 'At this moment, we have not evaluated the matter.

We will take the time to review and will not rush into any decisions.' This statement reflects Fedefútbol's current focus on other pressing coaching matters.

Maroto also acknowledged the priority of selecting a new head coach for the men's U-20 national team, indicating a strong inclination towards hiring a Costa Rican strategist.

He mentioned, 'We have good coaches in the country, and this is something that we need to review with Ignacio Hierro (director of selections), Miguel, and the Executive Committee.'

Furthermore, Maroto highlighted the necessity for the U-20 coach to possess a profile similar to that of Wanchope, emphasizing the importance of previous coaching experience in high-stakes matches and key moments in football.'

The developments come at a crucial time for Costa Rican football as the Federation continues to make strategic decisions for both the senior and youth national teams.
