Gasoline, diesel, and liquefied gas prices will rise following an adjustment by the Regulatory Authority.
Starting at midnight on March 18, 2023, consumers in
Costa Rica will experience an increase in the prices of fuels including gasoline, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas, distributed by the Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery (Recope).
This price adjustment was published on March 17 in the official journal, under Resolution 37 from the Regulatory Authority for Public Services (Aresep), and will take effect immediately.
The updated fuel prices are as follows:
Super Gasoline: Increased by ¢11, from ¢671 to ¢682 per liter.
Regular Gasoline: Increased by ¢21, from ¢650 to ¢671 per liter.
Diesel: The most significant rise, with an increase of ¢22, from ¢570 to ¢592 per liter.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas: The price of a 25-liter cylinder will rise by ¢271, from ¢7,423 to ¢7,694.
This announcement follows a previous communication from Recope on March 14, which indicated a reduction in fuel prices of between ¢16 and ¢28, set to take effect at the end of March.
As stated in a public release, the increase comes amid preparations for the upcoming Semana Santa (Holy Week), a period when many families plan vacations and various activities.
Aresep has explained that the price adjustment is based on extraordinary tariff changes for February, driven by rising import costs for Recope.
The regulatory body further noted that February saw high volatility in the international hydrocarbon market, influenced by geopolitical factors and climatic conditions, leading to an increase in international prices.
