Local Pet Fair Celebrates Bond Between Humans and Animals

Community event in Alajuela showcases pet care, adoption, and companionship.
The Viva Feria de Mascotas held at Parque Viva in Alajuela on March 22, 2025, brought together pet enthusiasts from the local community for a day of celebration and companionship.

Ligia Mendoza, a resident of Hatillo, attended the event with her chihuahua, Mía, who has become a cherished companion over the past 18 months.

Mendoza shared that she rescued Mía from the island of Chira, where she was abandoned due to having had multiple litters.

Mía was given a bottle to feed after being separated from her mother at a young age.

The event featured a variety of activities, including pet wellness workshops, pet fashion shows, and opportunities for pet adoption.

Mendoza, who also fosters four other rescue dogs, emphasized the joy her pets bring her.

Although her family is nearby, she stated that her furry companions provide her with constant company and happiness throughout the day.

Mía arrived at the fair without any clothing but was soon dressed in a new outfit purchased by Mendoza after seeing the wide selection of pet accessories.

In addition to Mía, Mendoza’s sister, Ana, attended the event with her three-year-old French poodle, Nala.

Ana expressed her joy in having Nala by her side, particularly how the dog eagerly awaits her return from work.

The pet fair aimed to create awareness about responsible pet ownership, featuring various resources and information for attendees.

Mendoza encouraged visitors to adopt rescue pets and treat them with kindness and respect.

The event also included giveaways, food trucks, and various competitive activities for pets, such as canicross—a sport that involves running with dogs—and doga, a yoga practice for dog owners and their pets.

Visitors experienced an engaging atmosphere filled with excitement, and many pets showcased their grooming and attire, attracting attention and admiration.

The fair continues into the following day, offering free entry and additional events, including competitions, wellness sessions, and educational presentations aimed at promoting the welfare of animals.
