Two men lost their lives in separate motorcycle accidents in the Upala canton of Alajuela on Sunday night.

The first incident occurred around 10 p.m. in the Popoyuapa area, approximately 50 meters north of the community hall on Route 4. The two motorcycles collided head-on in a narrow and poorly lit area, though the reasons for the crash remain unknown.

Rescue workers from the Red Cross were alerted and arrived on the scene, confirming the death of one man, identified as Felipe Pérez Gómez.

Additionally, a man and a woman were critically injured in the same collision and were transported to the Upala Hospital.

The man, who was only identified as Juan Carlos, succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival at the medical facility, according to the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ).

On the same night, another fatal motorcycle accident occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. in La Fortuna de San Carlos.

In this incident, two men riding a motorcycle veered off the road and struck a culvert.

One man, identified only by the last name Castro, aged 55, died at the scene, while another man, identified as Rostrán, aged 38, was taken to the San Carlos Hospital for treatment.

Less than an hour later, in Coyol de Alajuela, a 47-year-old motorcyclist identified as Méndez was involved in an accident after allegedly crossing into the oncoming lane of a tow truck.

The truck driver attempted to avoid a collision but struck Méndez, throwing him into a roadside ditch, where he died almost instantly.
