Violent Homicide in Cóbano Linked to Drug Allegations

Four suspects, including a woman known as 'La Sicariona', face charges in the brutal murder of Adinir Méndez Castro.
A woman identified as Alfaro Toruño, known colloquially as "La Sicariona", her alleged boyfriend Zapata Sandino, and two other men, Ramírez Saborío and Castro Ovares, are suspects in a violent homicide case involving the victim, Adinir Méndez Castro.

The Public Prosecutor's Office in Cóbano has reported that Castro was brutally assaulted with a metal pipe, which caused him to fall.

Following this, the suspects allegedly attacked him with a cutting weapon, leading to his death.

Afterward, the suspects reportedly placed the victim's body in a bag and transported it via motorcycle to the Cóbano River, where they set the body on fire.

The authorities believe the suspects thought that the victim had informed the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) about drug sales occurring from Castro's residence.

The assault reportedly took place on March 28 around noon in the La Menchita neighborhood of Cóbano.

The victim's body was discovered the following Saturday.

It is presumed that the suspects awaited the victim's arrival at Castro's house before launching their attack.

The Cóbano Penal Court has imposed a six-month preventive detention on the suspects while investigations continue.

The case remains active.

In a separate incident, the American sports community is in shock following the fatal stabbing of a high school athlete, Austin Metcalf, allegedly by a fellow student, Karmelo Anthony, during a competitive event.

The incident took place at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas, during the District 11-5A Championship event organized by the Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL).

The 17-year-old suspect is accused of fatally stabbing Metcalf, also aged 17, following a dispute during the competition.

The Frisco Police Department has expressed deep condolences to the family of the victim, stating that they are collaborating with the Frisco Independent School District to provide necessary support during this tragic period.

Metcalf was described as a high-achieving student and athlete with a 4.0 GPA.

The incident has garnered attention on social media, reflecting the profound impact of this event on the local community.
