Anderson Canhoto Aims to Elevate Performance Following Injury Recovery

The Alajuelense forward returns to the pitch after a recovery period, seeking to regain his prior form in the Clausura tournament.
Anderson Canhoto, forward for Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, has recently made a comeback from a significant injury that sidelined him for crucial matches in the current tournament.

His previous performances placed him among the standout players of the team, contributing notably in both minutes played and goals scored.

Canhoto has expressed the challenges he faced during his recovery, citing intense pain that resulted in his absence from three consecutive matches against Herediano, Cartaginés, and San Carlos.

He indicated his desire to return to peak performance levels, stating, "I want to return to the level that I know I can reach, but for now, I am very happy with the goal I scored.

We believe it is best to continue working as we have been doing." This comment was made after his recent performance against the Guerreros, where he found the back of the net.

The Brazilian forward acknowledged that his injury impacted his physicality and ability to perform the way he did during the previous season.

"It is very important to feel good.

I am a player who relies on my power in one-on-one situations, and when things do not align with how our body should function, we feel it.

However, I am very happy because I am already on the way back, thanks to the efforts made in physiotherapy and the trust Guima has placed in me and my work," he stated.

Canhoto has achieved three goals in the tournament thus far, scoring against teams such as Santa Ana, Saprissa, and Pérez Zeledón.

Alajuelense's head coach, Alexandre Guimaraes, detailed the cautious approach taken in Canhoto's recovery process.

"After his recovery, it was important for Canhoto to follow the protocols we implement when a player returns from injury, which includes playing a certain amount of time with the Under-19 or Under-21 teams.

He performed well in that setting, and therefore, it was my decision how much to play him, taking into account that synthetic surfaces are particularly challenging for players coming back from injuries.

He is a player whose best version we need to rediscover," Guimaraes said.

As Alajuelense prepares to face Santos this Sunday, Canhoto anticipates an increased number of minutes on the pitch at Morera Soto Stadium, a venue where he feels comfortable and seeks to regain his confidence.
