On March 26, 2025, at approximately 4:41 PM, emergency services responded to reports of a chlorine gas leak in La Lima, Cartago, leading to the evacuation of ninety students from the nearby Escuela República Francesa.

The leak was discovered when a cylinder containing chlorine was found situated along the banks of a river, located 500 meters from the school premises.

Firefighters, including specialized units trained in hazardous materials, as well as paramedics and rescue personnel from the Cartago Fire Station, were dispatched to the scene to assess and manage the situation.

By late afternoon, emergency responders had successfully controlled the leak, ensuring the safety of the surrounding area and those evacuated.
