A large-scale blaze destroys warehouse and vehicles, affecting nearby apartments without significant injuries.
On the night of January 20, 2025, a substantial fire broke out at a warehouse in San Pedro de Montes de Oca,
Costa Rica, causing widespread damage.
The fire, reported at 11:14 p.m., engulfed a 4,500 square meter warehouse located opposite the Muñoz & Nanne shopping center.
In addition to the warehouse, the fire consumed a parking area containing 15 vehicles and also impacted nearby apartment buildings.
Emergency services responded promptly, with the Costa Rican Fire Department dispatching 18 units, involving 75 firefighters from four different stations, to combat the blaze.
During this operation, the National Red Cross provided care to five individuals who suffered from smoke inhalation and anxiety but fortunately, no severe injuries were reported.
Firefighters worked through the night to bring the fire under control, successfully containing it at around 116 minutes after the initial call, with complete extinguishment taking several more hours.
Despite the high intensity of the fire, emergency crews managed to save 42 structures and protect an additional 12,000 square meters of nearby construction from the flames.
By morning, smoke residues were still noticeable in the affected areas, contributing to a lingering odor.
Local residents have commenced cleanup efforts amidst the aftermath of the blaze.
The fire incident, which resulted in the destruction of 4,350 square meters, including the warehouse, apartments, and a three-level building, ranks as the eleventh largest in
Costa Rica over the past 17 years.
The fire department's efficient response and high-pressure water hoses played a critical role in preventing the fire from spreading further, highlighting the coordinated efforts of the emergency services.
