Chinchilla clarifies his commitment to the club amid challenges and speculation regarding his position.
In recent hours, speculation circulated regarding the potential resignation of Gustavo Chinchilla, General Manager of Saprissa, one of
Costa Rica's most prominent football clubs.
Initial reports suggested that Chinchilla intended to step down from his role due to personal reasons.
However, in a public address, Chinchilla clarified that he has no plans to leave the club, often referred to as 'el Monstruo.'
Chinchilla acknowledged the demanding nature of his position and expressed feelings of fatigue following his five-year tenure, which he completed on March 9. Under his administration, Saprissa has achieved notable success, winning six out of twelve tournaments.
Despite the pressures tied to his role, Chinchilla asserted his commitment to the club's future and the opportunities within the football industry.
"I must confess that I am a little tired, but I have no plans to leave Saprissa," Chinchilla stated.
He further elaborated on the club's internal evaluations, emphasizing that while all employees, including himself, are under scrutiny, this does not equate to imminent departures.
The club has faced significant challenges in the early part of the year, with financial difficulties impacting operations and disappointing performances on the pitch.
Chinchilla referred to January as particularly tough, citing substantial administrative issues that have affected the club's success.
He expressed determination to overcome these hardships, presenting a new project aimed at revitalizing the club's fortunes.
Chinchilla reiterated his enthusiasm for his role, highlighting his ambition to elevate the Saprissa brand as a leading force in the region.
He affirmed that his appointment is the result of decisions made by the club's board and its stakeholders.
"I am at the service of the board and its members.
I want to continue fulfilling my role," he concluded.
