Search Underway for Missing Person Mauricio Chavarría in San Ramón

Authorities investigate the disappearance of 32-year-old Mauricio Chavarría, who went missing on March 20 after leaving work.
Mauricio Chavarría Velásquez, 32, has been missing for seven days since his disappearance in San Ramón, Alajuela.

His family and friends are seeking answers in a case that currently lacks clear leads regarding his whereabouts.

Chavarría, originally from Puntarenas, moved to San Ramón two years ago for a job opportunity at a technology retail store.

According to acquaintances, he was a reserved and responsible individual known for his work commitment, making his disappearance particularly alarming.

He left work in downtown San Ramón at 6 p.m. on March 20, as per his usual routine.

However, he did not return to his apartment and was not seen again.

His absence at work the following day raised concerns among colleagues who attempted to contact him without success.

One colleague visited his home and found that neither Chavarría nor his BMW vehicle was present.

On March 9, eleven days before his disappearance, Chavarría had posted an advertisement on social media to sell his car.

His family has speculated whether he may have arranged a meeting with a buyer on the night he went missing, although no evidence has surfaced to confirm such an appointment.

The landlord of Chavarría's apartment noted that on the night of March 20, he observed the absence of Chavarría's BMW when he parked his own vehicle.

Social media has yielded potential leads, though many have proven inconclusive.

One report involved a woman who claimed to have been transported by a man matching Chavarría's description through a ride-sharing platform, prompting his family to question whether he had been working as a driver.

However, acquaintances assert that he had no history of engaging in such work.

Additionally, there were unverified sightings of a man resembling Chavarría in nearby Agua Zarcas, San Carlos, though police investigations in the area did not produce any evidence.

Furthermore, a report described a man resembling Chavarría seen in Berlín de San Ramón, accompanied by a dog and carrying a shovel, but there is uncertainty within the family regarding whether he owned a pet.

Chavarría had previously shared images on WhatsApp depicting gatherings with a group of BMW vehicle owners, which his family does not recognize.

On March 22, a formal report was filed with the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ).

Investigators have since been gathering information and examining potential scenarios related to Chavarría's disappearance, but the lack of progress is heightening anxiety.

During the investigation, authorities obtained permission from the family to enter Chavarría's apartment and conduct interviews with his coworkers, but no significant leads have emerged thus far.

Family members expressed their concern over the passage of time with no updates about Chavarría's fate, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

The family is appealing to the public for any information regarding his whereabouts.

Individuals with relevant details can contact the OIJ's confidential hotline at 800-8000-645.
